3M mPro110 – Upgraded to mPro120

3M has recently announced and are ready to roll out its second generation mini projectors. The 3M MPro120 mini projector which is a replacement for the 3M MPro110 that was introduced about this same time last year will have a few enhanced features. The new features are extended battery life, extended lamp life and stereo speakers.

The 3M Pro120 incorporating the new MM200 projection engine probably will hit the streets on the US market late September as there a few thousand units of the 3M MPro110 are still in the channel.

3M MPro 120 Specs

  • Integrated flip stand and tripod
  • Projection Brightness: 12 lumens of brightness
  • VGA resolution: 640 x 480 resolution
  • Projection size: 8 and 50 inches large
  • Projection Ratio: 4:3 aspect ratio
  • Battery Life: 2-4 hours
  • Projection Engine: MM200

Personally, if I needed a pocket projector right now, I would buy the 3M Pro110 from Amazon for $199, than rather pay $349.00 for the upgrade version.

Not Your Normal Projector – 3D

As if looking at floating images in free space produced by mid-air displays isn’t cool enough, a research team from the University of Tokyo now makes it possible to even touch (kind of) those images with a newly developed projector system.

The so-called Touch Holography is essentially made of three parts: Provision Interactive Technologies’ Holo display, two Wii remote controls to track your hands in front of the display and a tactile display that uses ultrasound to provide tactile sensation onto your hand.

The Holo display creates an image (of a small ball, in the picture) that floats 30cm away from the display. As the image is essentially light, you’ll obviously fail to touch the ball. The Touch Holography uses the Wiimote’s infrared camera to track the position of your hand so that the tactile display can radiate ultrasound to the right spot, making you feel you actually touch the object.

The researchers say their system could be used for developing high-end video games or in 3D CAD.

Don’t miss the chance to try the system out yourself if you can make it to SIGGRAPH 2009 in New Orleans today.

This is Different?

A different aspect of a tiny projector – and with speakers

This Miseal mini projection cube measures less than 3-inches per side, but it manages to create a 112-inch image within a 16-foot throwing distance.

The resolution is just 800×600 (SVGA), and its LED bulb only puts out 25 lumens of brightness at a measly contrast ratio of 100:1. Great for a booth, easy to travel with. Estimate street price of $435.00 – Wonder if this will hit the Office Supplies Channel?

We knew this was coming – Projector Phone

We mentioned this idea in our post when the 3M M Pro110 was introduced. Who will put a projector on or in a cell phone? Well someone has, now you can carry a big screen TV in your pocket.

What’s in your pocket?

The new Logic Bolt, created by US-based Logic Wireless (their website is still under construction), makes its debut at the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show this week in Las Vegas.

Where traditional cell phones provide an amazing amount of information which users are forced to view on a tiny screen, now they can display on the wall for everyone to see.

The new Logic Bolt increases screen size by 3000% or more through a built-in projector that casts razor-sharp images onto a wall or screen. A once “one-user” cell phone becomes a device that creates images large enough for a crowd.

Logic Wireless sees endless applications for its new projector phone, including a must-have business tool for the road warrior doing presentations. Power Point?

Logic Wireless phones are compatible with GSM carriers such as T-Mobile and AT&T . In the future, the company will expand its GSM Carrier network.

The Bolt features:

  • Built-in projector that casts images 36“ to 64”+
  • Touch Screen
  • GSM Quad Band
  • 3 Mega Pixel Camera
  • Bluetooth, GPS, Internet
  • PowerPoint, Excel, Word
  • Connects with Laptop USB, TV, XBox, Wii

Made in China? My kid will get a kickout this for his Wii, will yours?
